Billa is a Tamil-language action thriller film released in 1980 starring Rajinikanth, Sripriya, and K. Balaji. The movie was directed by R. Krishnamurthy and produced by Suresh Balaje. The movie was a remake of the 1978 Bollywood blockbuster Don, starring Amitabh Bachchan. The film revolves around the character of Billa, played by Rajinikanth, who is a notorious international criminal who has a vast network of smuggling operations. He is wanted by the police and the Interpol for his illegal activities. The police department devises a plan to capture Billa by using a lookalike of him named Ranga, played by Rajinikanth in a dual role.

The movie begins with Billa carrying out a heist where he robs a diamond necklace worth millions of rupees from a famous actress, Jaya, played by Sripriya. Jaya witnesses the robbery but is unable to identify Billa due to his disguise. Billa's henchmen, who are constantly on the lookout, are suspicious of Jaya and want to kill her to prevent her from identifying Billa.

Meanwhile, the police department assigns Ranga, a petty thief in Mumbai, to impersonate Billa and infiltrate his gang to collect evidence against him. Ranga undergoes rigorous training to impersonate Billa, including physical and behavioral changes, and is introduced to Billa's henchmen as their boss.

As Ranga gets absorbed into the gang, he discovers the true nature of Billa's operations and becomes sympathetic towards Jaya, who is being hunted by Billa's henchmen. Ranga then devises a plan to rescue Jaya and bring Billa to justice. However, things do not go as planned, and Ranga is left to face the wrath of Billa's men and the police department.

The movie is famous for its thrilling action sequences and Rajinikanth's exceptional performance in the dual roles of Billa and Ranga. The film also features some melodious songs composed by the legendary music director M.S. Viswanathan, including the famous song "My Name Is Billa," which is still popular among Rajinikanth's fans.

Billa, upon its release, was a huge hit and later went on to become a cult classic in Tamil cinema. The film cemented Rajinikanth's popularity as the ultimate superstar of Tamil cinema and is still considered one of his most iconic movies to date.

In conclusion, Billa is a classic Tamil-language action thriller film that keeps the audience engaged throughout its runtime. It features Rajinikanth in a dual role, some excellent action sequences, and melodious music, making it a must-watch for any fan of Tamil cinema.
