Breaking Spirits is a supernatural horror film that tells the story of a tortured housewife, Sara (Skylar Radzion), who moves to a new town with her husband, Neil (Ludan Cui). Sara is struggling with depression and alcoholism after the tragic death of their son, and when they move to a new house in the countryside, things start to get even worse.

Sara begins to see and hear strange things in the house, and she becomes increasingly convinced that the place is haunted. Meanwhile, Neil is preoccupied with his work as a doctor, and he doesn't take Sara's concerns seriously.

As Sara's mental state deteriorates, she begins to unravel the dark history of the house and the family who lived there before them. She discovers that a young girl, Emily, drowned in the nearby lake, and that her mother, Rachel (Nakita Kohan), went insane with grief and killed herself in the house.

With the help of a local psychic, Sara tries to uncover the truth about what happened to Emily and Rachel, and how their spirits are still trapped in the house. But the more she digs, the more she realizes that she and Neil are in grave danger.

Breaking Spirits is a well-crafted horror film that blends elements of psychological drama with supernatural scares. The film's strength lies in its atmospheric cinematography and sound design, which create a sense of dread and unease from the very beginning. The haunting score, composed by Omar Saab, is particularly effective in building tension and creating an otherworldly atmosphere.

Skylar Radzion delivers a powerful performance as Sara, convincingly portraying the character's emotional turmoil and increasing paranoia. Ludan Cui is also strong in the role of the sympathetic but ultimately clueless husband, Neil.

Nakita Kohan gives a creepy and nuanced performance as Rachel, the troubled mother whose ghost haunts the house. Her scenes are some of the most chilling in the film, and she provides a much-needed counterbalance to Sara's increasingly unreliable perspective.

The film has a few pacing issues, with some scenes dragging on too long and others feeling rushed. The supporting characters are also somewhat underdeveloped, serving primarily as plot devices rather than fully fleshed-out personalities.

Overall, Breaking Spirits is a competent and eerie horror film that explores themes of grief, guilt, and redemption. It's not groundbreaking, but it's a solid addition to the genre and a promising debut for director Peter Ricq.

Breaking Spirits is a 2019 thriller with a runtime of 1 hour and 40 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.1.
