Watch Brooklyn Gangster - The Story of Jose Lucas
- 1 hr 56 min
This movie is a shockingly blunt and painful peek into the filmmakers' own family grief, an urban tale extraordinaire. It is filled with mournful pathos for the young Jose's wasted life. But it is also a candid and frank look into the flawed logic and perverted family values that drive behaviors and that have captured so much of the imagination and culture of our contemporary youth of color. It is a testament to Cagle's true "guerilla filmmaker" spirit, that he was able to mount this production and get a film in the can so quickly after these tragic, gut-ripping events. The Jose Lucas Story, is a film that will certainly be controversial as it gets played in festivals, theaters, and over the wider networks of social media. "This story, this project, was very exciting for me, it's what I feel I know, what I'm really good at: action, suspense, conflict, drama...this film is the best work I've ever done."
