Colonia is a historical drama based in the Cold War Period of modern history with specific emphasis on the real world Chilean military coup d'etat of 1973 and the cult of Colonia Dignidad (Dignity Colony). The film stars Emma Watson (Harry Potter Series, The Bling Ring), Michael Nyquist (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Film Series, Mission Impossible) and Daniel Bruhl (The Edukators, The Bourne Ultimatum). The plot revolves around the Colonia Dignidad during the Chilean military coup against Salvador Allende. After Allende is formally deposed his former military commander, Augusto Pinochet swiftly rises to power, a violent move which sets off riots in the streets, engulfing the country of Chile in near total chaos. Amidst this backdrop of terror and civil unrest, a young couple named Lena (Emma Watson) and Daniel find themselves at the heart of a yet further tragedy when Daniel is kidnapped by Augusto Pinochet's secret military police, the DINA. This sets Lena on a mission to discover where her poor and innocent husband has been taken. Her journey leads her straight into the heart of darkness, to the secretive agricultural and spiritual commune, Colonia Dignidad, run by the mysterious and tyrannical Paul Schafer, a lay preacher and former criminal - his crime, the sexual abuse of little children.
