Crazy as Hell is a psychological thriller film that starts out as a documentary but turns dark as more is revealed in the mental hospital. Dr. Adams (Michael Beach) gets to the mental hospital for the sole purpose of conducting the documentary on what goes on in the hospital. Dr. Adams is an arrogant man that is haunted by events that have happened in his life. As he is filming, a potential suicide is announced. A suicidal patient threatens to kill herself and Dr. Adams insists that he can talk the girl down by himself. He bars the police from coming in. While talking her down, Barnett (Eriq La Salle) a patient that believes he is Satan appears and starts spilling Dr. Adams' darkest secrets. He reveals that Dr. Adams is still angry and devastated over his daughter's death among other truths. The patient doubts Dr. Adams' abilities and commits suicide. The documentary ends suddenly. After speaking with Barnett's mother he feels that he has found the true identity of Barnett and makes plans to leave after retraining him. Barnett's mother makes a visit to the hospital and asks if he could take a basket to her son. Before leaving to give the basket, his mother asks him if he believes in God and Dr. Adams tells her no. He opens the door to see Barnett is still in a straightjacket one moment and the next he is gone, but the mother is now bald and running. Dr. Adams chases after her only to find himself in different environments as he is now chasing Barnett in his mother's clothing. He finds himself in a bedroom looking at a vision of himself committing suicide over the death of his daughter. He is then in the library where Satan is on a throne along with all the other hospital staff have transformed into grotesque figures. Satan asks him who he is and Dr. Adams says he is good man.
