Dark Water is a supernatural horror film directed by Walter Salles that was released in 2005. Adapted from the Japanese horror film of the same name, Dark Water follows the story of Dahlia Williams (Jennifer Connelly), a newly divorced mother who moves with her daughter Ceci (Ariel Gade) into a rundown apartment building in New York City.

Dahlia is struggling to keep her life together amidst her tumultuous divorce and custody battle. She is desperate to give her daughter a sense of stability and a place to call home. But when they move into their new apartment, strange things begin to happen. The building is dark and damp, with leaks and creaky pipes, and Dahlia hears inexplicable noises from the floor above them. She also starts seeing a young girl in a red raincoat, who seems to be some sort of apparition.

Dahlia soon learns that the apartment building has a disturbing history. Years ago, a young girl named Natasha suffered a tragic fate in the building's water tank, and her spirit may be haunting the place. The building's super, Mr. Veeck (John C. Reilly), seems to know more than he's letting on about the building's dark past, and is suspiciously eager to help Dahlia and Ceci settle in.

As the situation becomes more and more dire, Dahlia becomes increasingly isolated and paranoid. Her ex-husband, who is seeking custody of Ceci, adds to the pressure. Dahlia is also haunted by the memories of her own troubled childhood, making it difficult for her to distinguish between reality and her own fears.

Jennifer Connelly delivers a gripping performance as Dahlia, portraying the character's worsening anxiety with authenticity and nuance. The film's effective use of lighting and sound design contributes to the overall eerie atmosphere, while the striking imagery of the water tank and flooded apartment add to the unsettling nature of the story.

Ariel Gade delivers a strong performance as Dahlia's daughter, Ceci. Her character is quite mature for her age, but also terrified of the strange events unfolding around her. John C. Reilly is creepily convincing as the building superintendent, Mr. Veeck, who may be hiding a dark secret.

Overall, Dark Water is a chilling and unsettling horror film that will leave the audience feeling uneasy long after the credits roll. It is not a movie for the faint of heart, as it deals with themes of loss, trauma, and the supernatural in a deeply unsettling way. However, for fans of horror and psychological thrillers, Dark Water is definitely worth checking out.

Dark Water is a 2005 horror movie with a runtime of 1 hour and 45 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 5.6 and a MetaScore of 52.
