Devi is a beautiful young lady who resides with her widowed mother in a small hamlet in India. She eventually falls in love with the local doctor, Shekhar, and they decide to get married. After their marriage Shekhar and his newly wedded bride are not accepted by his eldest brother and his mother-in-law who lives in the same house with her youngest daughter, Shobha. She is strongly against Devi and denies accepting her in the household because she always thought that Skekhar will marry her daughter Shobha. Devi faces great denial in the family and goes through a very tough time. After seeing the loathing behavior towards Devi, Shekhar decides to leave the house along with his wife and plans to live separately. He cannot tolerate the hostile behavior towards his wife. After knowing this bitter truth Shekhar’s elder brother and his mother-in-law decide to show some consideration towards Devi and she is unwillingly accepted in the family. In the meantime Shekhar urgently departs to attend a medical seminar and promises to return after a few weeks time. Upon arrival Shekhar is shocked to discover that Devi has gone missing. His elder brother and his mother-in-law fail to provide a suitable explanation for the sudden departure of Devi. He desperately searches for Devi everywhere and goes to find out the whereabouts of Devi at her mother’s place. He thinks that he’ll never ever see his child’s face if he fails to find out Devi. Upon arrival, Devi’s mother informs him to look for Devi in a local brothel house. Distressed Shekhar loses all hope when he finds out Devi and his widowed mother in a local poster on the brothel wall. To his utter disbelief he returns home and seeks for his elder brother’s forgiveness. He promises to snap off all existing connections with Devi and also vows never ever to associate with any other lady in a marriage relationship.
