Ek Phali Rodh is a Bengali drama film directed by Atanu Ghosh and was released in 2014. The movie stars a talented ensemble cast including Dhritiman Chatterjee, Aparajita Ghosh Das, and Ritwick Chakraborty in lead roles. The storyline revolves around the life of Dr. Somshankar Roy (Dhritiman Chatterjee), a renowned professor and researcher, an ardent believer in science, and an atheist. His life takes an unexpected turn when he gets a phone call from Janaki (Aparajita Ghosh Das), an ardent follower of Lord Krishna, who invites him to visit a small village called Manikantapur located in the heart of the Sunderbans, West Bengal.

Janaki seeks his help in deciphering a code which she believes is on a plant, seen only once every twelve years, called Ek Phali Rodh. She believes it can cure any ailment and wants to use it to alleviate the sufferings of the people in the Sunderbans. Dr. Roy, intrigued by the code, agrees to visit the village and study the plant.

Upon reaching Manikantapur, Dr. Roy discovers a different world in the midst of remote Sunderbans. He is taken aback by the prevalence of superstitions and the blind faith of villagers in God and religion, which he considers irrational.

As he starts researching the plant, he meets various people who offer their opinions and beliefs about the plant, based on what they have heard from their grandparents. Dr. Roy initially remains skeptical of their beliefs and customs but eventually, he begins to question his own scientific approach towards life.

He meets Jishu (Ritwick Chakraborty), a local fisherman who guides him through the Sunderbans and introduces him to the mystical world of the jungle. Jishu reignites Dr. Roy's lost love for nature, and their conversations lead him to question his beliefs on faith and science.

As he carries on his research and spends more time in Manikantapur, Dr. Roy is confronted with several challenges, including a corrupt local administration, a greedy business tycoon who wants to monetize the plant, and his own inner conflicts.

The rest of the story follows Dr. Roy's journey as he tries to decipher the code, confronts his own beliefs, and tries to make sense of the superstitions and religious beliefs prevalent in the Sunderbans.

Overall, Ek Phali Rodh is a thought-provoking and engaging film that explores the themes of faith, science, and the clash between the two. The performances of the lead cast are stellar, and the breathtaking cinematography perfectly captures the mystique of the Sunderbans. If you're looking for a film that will challenge your beliefs and leave you questioning the status quo, then Ek Phali Rodh is a must-watch.
