Fast Forward is largely considered to be the original dance troupe movie but is actually much more than a typical dance movie. Tamara Mark, Don Franklin, John Scott Clough, and Monique Cintron play some of the characters who wanted to make a mark on the world through their unique choreographic skills. In total, eight students from a rural Ohio school with a low budget for arts and music are determined to make it big and take home the win in a New York City dance competition. The odd bunch must overcome a somewhat bitter coach and teacher who means well but whose strict demeanor is abrasive to most students. They also encounter competition and betrayal from within as well as a general culture shock when they arrive in a brand new city full of modern dancers. The musical aspects of the movie add interesting undercurrents to the main plot and effectively match the emotional turmoil and insecurities that the students feel when they realize they are out of their league.
