Kid Blue is a 1973 American western comedy film directed by James Frawley and starring Dennis Hopper, Warren Oates, and Peter Boyle. Set in the late 19th century in Texas, the film follows the exploits of Bickford Waner, also known as Kid Blue, a young man who dreams of being a gunslinger but ends up working as a carpenter for the corrupt town boss, Doyle.

The movie opens with Kid Blue robbing a bank with a group of outlaws, all of whom are killed except for Kid Blue himself. He manages to escape and finds himself in a small Texas town, where he meets the beautiful and independent Jenny, played by Janice Rule. Jenny is a schoolteacher who has come to the town to open a schoolhouse, and Kid Blue volunteers to help her build it.

Kid Blue's attempts to become a gunslinger are repeatedly foiled by the townsfolk, who are all under the thumb of Doyle, played by Ben Johnson. Doyle is a crooked businessman who controls the town and everyone in it, including the corrupt sheriff, played by Lee Purcell. Kid Blue quickly becomes disillusioned with the town and its inhabitants and decides he must take action against Doyle and his gang of thugs.

As he plots his revenge, Kid Blue becomes more involved with Jenny, who encourages him to give up his dangerous ways and start a new life. But Kid Blue knows that he must fulfill his dream of becoming a gunslinger and bringing justice to the town, even if it means putting himself in danger. Along the way, he befriends a veteran gunslinger named Reese, played by Warren Oates, who agrees to help him in his quest.

The movie is full of quirky characters and offbeat humor. Peter Boyle plays a hilarious character called "Bum" who is always drunk and causing trouble, while Ben Johnson's Doyle is a menacing and corrupt businessman who will stop at nothing to protect his interests. Warren Oates is also a standout as Reese, an experienced gunslinger who has seen it all and provides some much-needed guidance to Kid Blue.

The film's underlying theme is the struggle between good and evil and the corrupting influence of power. Kid Blue is a young man who is tempted by the allure of becoming a gunslinger, but ultimately realizes that the path of violence and revenge is not the answer. Through his friendship with Jenny and Reese, he learns that there are more important things in life than fame and fortune.

Overall, Kid Blue is a fun and entertaining movie that blends the Western and comedy genres in a unique and refreshing way. Denis Hopper delivers a memorable performance as the titular character, and the supporting cast is equally impressive. Despite its satirical tone, the movie still manages to deliver a powerful message about the importance of doing what is right and standing up to injustice.

Kid Blue is a 1973 comedy with a runtime of 1 hour and 40 minutes. It has received moderate reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 6.2.
