Kiss of the Damned
Kiss of the Damned is the 2013 Gothic vampire thriller about a vampire community threatened by the love triangle between beautiful vampire Djuana, her partner Paulo, and Djuana's troublesome sister Mimi. The movie was directed by Xan Cassavetes, who clearly uses B vampire movies from the 1970s as inspiration. Vampire Djuana is not the typical blood sucker. She lives a rather mundane life working a tedious job and entertaining herself with vintage movies. Rather than drink human blood she opts to kill animals to satisfy her plasma needs. A chance meeting at a video store brings Djuana together with hot-blooded screenwriter hunk Paulo, who is interested in more than just friendship. Djuana initially resists her desires, but gives in to Paulo and they embarks on a passionate relationship. Paulo's yearning to become a vampire is fulfilled by Djuana and they settle into a happy life living in a isolated house in the woods. All is well until Djuana's trouble-making sister Mimi shows up. Mimi dances to her own tune and like the classic vampire, has no intentions of swearing off human blood. Polar opposites, Djuana lives within the rules as regulations set forth by the vampire community while Mimi dresses provocatively and scours the back alleys for fresh kills. Djuana attempts to sway Mimi from her wicked ways and into a more civilized and humane lifestyle to no avail. Tensions rise when Mimi sets her sights on Paulo. Djuana has no intentions of letting Mimi upset the happy life that she has grown to love. Mimi's arrival has also threatened the vampire community as a whole due to her extremely wanton and violent behavior against humans. The vampire community is existing underground and in anonymity and plan to keep it that way. Djuana must find a way to save herself, Paulo, and Mimi against the dangerous forces rising against them.
