This dramatic program covers the opening days of the Korean War and the reasons for the North Korean invasion of South Korea. Ill-prepared to meet the attack, the U.S. Army suffers from a "disease of the spirit" until General Douglas MacArthur turned the tide with the triumphant amphibious landing at Inchon. The Seventh Cavalry wins this phase of the war, enabling President Syngman Rhee to return to leadership in South Korea. President Truman and MacArthur disagree over how far to move troops into North Korea, and China's Chairman Mao responds to these advancements.
