Korengal is a news oriented documentary that was released in 2014. The film features two documentarians who go to one of the most dangerous and strategically valley in Afghanistan. They end up being entrenched with a platoon of soldiers who have to fight in order to keep the valley. The film follows the massive amount of labor they have to go through and the grim horrors of fighting in such a dangerous place. The film pays particular attention to the personalities of each one of the soldiers in the platoon, and how they end up developing unbreakable bonds as the result of serving together. Korengal is considered to be a sequel to the documentary Restrepo, which was released in 2010. Restrepo follows the same format in the same location, but looks at a different group of soldiers. Korengal attempts to offer a news based look at the situation in Afghanistan, but also attempts to draw a portrait of American soldiers. The film was made by journalist Tim Hetherington and Sebastian Junger. The platoon they follow is the Company 2nd of the 503rd Infantry Regiment 173rd Airborne Brigade.
