The film revolves around Saravanan (Karthik), a young man from a wealthy family who falls in love with Meenakshi (Nagma), a nurse working in a hospital. However, he gets to know about Saravanan's love for Meenakshi and decides to help the couple. With the help of his mischievous grandson, Saravanan's grandfather manages to convince everyone and brings a happy ending to the story.

Mettukudi is known for its hilarious comedy, thanks to the performances of Goundamani, Senthil, and Kovai Sarala. Karthik and Nagma have also delivered commendable performances, with Karthik showcasing his acting skills in emotional scenes. The chemistry between Karthik and Nagma has been well-received by the audience. Gemini Ganesan's performance as the strict but lovable grandfather is also noteworthy.
