Mr. Magoo in Sherwood Forest is an action-adventure comedy film from 1964, directed by Shamus Culhane and starring Jim Backus. The movie is based on the classic tale of Robin Hood, but with a twist. Instead of being a heroic outlaw, Robin Hood is actually a bumbling fool who can't seem to get anything right. Meanwhile, Mr. Magoo is an old man who is almost completely blind, but also incredibly lucky. When the two of them team up, they accidentally become heroes and begin to save the day.

The movie opens with Mr. Magoo, who is actually a wealthy businessman, embarking on a hunting trip in Sherwood Forest with his nephew Waldo. Magoo is completely oblivious to his surroundings and struggles to tell the difference between a tree and a deer, which leads to a comical chase scene that sets the tone for the rest of the film. After the chase, Magoo and Waldo stumble across a group of outlaws who are robbing a stagecoach. The leader of the outlaws is none other than Robin Hood himself, who is portrayed as a clumsy and bumbling fool. Despite his best efforts, Robin Hood accidentally sets his own hideout on fire and is forced to flee.

Meanwhile, the Sheriff of Nottingham is trying to capture Robin Hood and his band of outlaws, but he too is portrayed as a bumbling fool who can't seem to catch a break. This all changes when the Sheriff gets his hands on an ancient manuscript that supposedly holds the key to finding a lost treasure hidden somewhere in Sherwood Forest. The treasure is said to be guarded by a powerful wizard, so the Sheriff enlists the help of a group of knights to assist him in his search.

When Mr. Magoo and Waldo stumble across the Sheriff and his knights, they are mistaken for powerful wizards and are immediately taken prisoner. Once they are brought before the Sheriff, Magoo and Waldo are able to convince him that they truly are powerful wizards and offer to help him find the treasure in exchange for their freedom. With no other options left, the Sheriff agrees to their terms and sets off on a journey through Sherwood Forest.

Along the way, Magoo and Waldo inadvertently rescue Robin Hood from capture and the three of them team up to stop the Sheriff from finding the treasure. Despite their comical mishaps and misadventures, the trio is able to outsmart the Sheriff and his knights at every turn. They make their way through dangerous booby traps and fend off vicious beasts, but in the end, they are able to locate the treasure and defeat the Sheriff.

Throughout the movie, Jim Backus delivers a hilarious performance as Mr. Magoo, who is constantly getting into trouble but somehow manages to come out ahead. The scenes where Magoo mistakes a log for a bridge, a bear for a dog, and Sheriff's castle for a hotel are all classic Magoo moments that are sure to make audiences laugh. Meanwhile, Robin Hood's portrayal as a hapless fool is also a highlight of the film. His scenes where he accidentally sets his hideout on fire and gets tied up by his own men are all played for laughs, but still manage to stay true to the original character.

Overall, Mr. Magoo in Sherwood Forest is a fun and lighthearted adventure movie that is sure to entertain audiences of all ages. While it may not be the most faithful adaptation of the Robin Hood mythos, it still manages to capture the spirit of the original story while adding its own unique humor and charm. Jim Backus' performance as Mr. Magoo is a standout, and the supporting cast all do a great job in their roles. Fans of classic comedies and adventure movies should definitely give this one a watch.
