This film takes place during the long months of one summer where an Irish boy named Chris strikes up an unlikely friendship with an American boy named Joe. The two are very different from each other and yet they become inseparable, but then the most shocking truth is revealed when Joe turns out to be a girl. Chris is saddened to learn that Joe's gender must be kept a secret. This is an endearing story of love and friendship between two young children who will do anything they can to help each other through the hardships they face in life.
