My Summer Story is a continuation of A Christmas Story. This one takes place in the summer after Christmas. The movie starts with Ralphie in the last days of school before the summer break. Ralphie has a new quest which is to find a top that is strong enough to win against the bully’s top in a game of “Kill”. The Old Man is going to war with their neighbors, the Bumpuses and all their forty three dogs named Big Red. The Old Man now has a dog of his own, Barkley, who he calls for to distract the idiotic hounds so that he does not get attacked as soon as he gets home from work. The Old Man decides that he is going to wire all of the speakers of the house together to blast his classical music at the Bumpuses although, he quickly finds out that all that work was for naught.

Ralphie’s mom goes to the movies every week to get a special line of dishes although; all they give her is gravy boats. By the end of the summer, all the housewives of the neighborhood have gotten so fed up that they throw the gravy boats at the announcer. The family goes to the fair, where Ralphie finally finds the top he was looking for. Scut is demoted by a new head bully that rules over him. When Ralphie finally does go up against the bully, both the tops fight against each other. The last anyone sees of them is when they both disappear into the sewer never to be seen again. The Old Man finally decides that Ralphie is old enough to go fishing with him. They go to his favorite fishing hole and wait for hours without having caught one fish. All of the sudden the fish literally start jumping into the boats for no apparent reason.
