The film centers on a princess who is the daughter of a wicked king, who treats his subjects with great cruelty. The princess is of a softer and more noble nature however, and she attempts to right some of the wrongs her father has committed against the local peasants. One of the peasants is a dying old woman, who notices the girl in her village and delivers to her a prophecy concerning some strange dreams the girl will experience nightly. The girl then has her first dream that very evening.
