Quickly, the nominations take a wild turn, with ridiculous names of nominees ranging from 'Vampires Kissing' to 'Alien Invasion 6.' Amidst this, the architect of the plan, played by Byrne, gleefully watches and enjoys the craziness that ensues.

As the film progresses, the viewer is treated to a variety of parodies and inside jokes about Hollywood and the movie industry. The film satirizes everything from the voting process to the grandeur of the awards ceremony itself. For instance, in one scene, Bolivar portrays the character of an actress determined to win an award, showcasing the absurd length people are willing to go to in the race for recognition. In another scene, the ceremony is stalled when actual Academy members crash the event, wielding picket signs and protesting the creation of the 'Not the Oscars.'

While the movie is undoubtedly comedic, it also has heart, and the characters within it are well fleshed out. Bolivar's character, in particular, is a standout. She plays the head of the Academy's public relations department, and her enthusiasm and love for the ceremony are infectious. She works tirelessly to make sure the 'Not the Oscars' are a success and is a constant driving force behind the colorful cast working collaboratively.

The supporting cast also does an excellent job, with notable performances from Tim Myers and Natalie Guymer. Myers plays the unassuming motivational coach tasked with preparing the nominees' acceptance speeches. His scenes are terrific, and he ably injects absurdity and humor into them. Guymer, meanwhile, plays one of the Academy members who nominates a terrible film. Her comedic timing is spot-on, and her scenes with Byrne's character are amongst the film's funniest moments.

Overall, Not the Oscars is an incredibly enjoyable watch. It's a clever parody that takes aim at the movie industry's most significant night, while still treating it with a tongue-in-cheek reverence. The performances are great, and the film's pacing and editing keep things fresh and entertaining throughout.
