Plot:
The movie opens with John McGrath, a middle-aged man, packing his camping gear, and setting off to the hills of Ireland, searching for inner peace and solace from his troubled past. But what he encounters in the wilderness is far from his expectations- thick fog, treacherous terrain, and a fierce storm that knocks him off his feet. Just when he thinks his adventure is over, John stumbles upon Sarah, a young woman who's lost and injured. Despite John's initial reluctance, he decides to help Sarah, and the two begin their grueling journey through the forest, with a limited supply of food and water.
As John and Sarah trudge through the unforgiving wilderness, they start uncovering each other's life stories and discovering their shared pain and trauma. John has lost his home, business, and family due to addiction and gambling, while Sarah is fleeing her toxic relationship and her past mistakes. They keep each other's spirits up by singing songs, cracking jokes, and reminiscing their memories. They also encounter various animals, such as a majestic stag, a protective mamma bear, and a playful otter.
However, the journey is not without its challenges. John suffers from panic attacks due to his past addiction, and Sarah's injury worsens, making it almost impossible to walk. They run out of food and get lost multiple times. They must also evade the dangerous poachers lurking in the forest, who are hell-bent on hunting down the animals.
As they reach the half-point of their journey, Sarah's condition starts deteriorating rapidly, weakening her body and mind. John must dig deep into his survival instincts to save Sarah's life. He constructs a makeshift shelter, feeds her berries, and creates a slogan to keep them going. He also has to confront his inner demons and confess about his past addiction to Sarah.
In the climax, John and Sarah finally make it to the edge of the forest, encountering a lone car in the parking lot. They embrace each other, realizing how far they've come since their first meeting, and vow to move forward with their newfound courage and resilience. The movie closes with John walking away from the car, bidding Sarah farewell, and set out on another journey, full of hope and optimism.
