Jose de Cruz is a wealthy Portuguese land owner in the lush farming region of Santo Antao, Azores. He is suddenly set at the mercy of the ravages of nature. With every drought, and soil condition shift, his standing in life becomes like walking on a tightrope. His passion for his people leads him to abandon many familiar luxuries and join a routine migration in search of hope and plenty.
