"Papa: Hemingway in Cuba" is a new biopic from director Bob Yari which, as the title suggests, focuses on Hemingway's last years in Cuba. The film centers on the friendship between Hemingway, played by Adrian Sparks, and Ed Myers, Giovanni Ribisi, a young writer who travels to Cuba to meet his idol. The screenplay, written by Denne Bart Petitclerc, is partially autobiographical. As a young man, Petiticlerc spent some time in Cuba where he formed a friendship with Hemingway. The heady days of Fidel Casto's Cuban Revolution against the government forces of Fulgencio Batista provide the backdrop. As Hemingway and Myers come closer together, Cuba, itself is quickly falling apart. This is the first film to be shot in Cuba since 1959 when Fidel Castro came to power. The filmmakers were allowed to use Hemingway's actual Cuban home, which is now a museum. Shooting also took place on Hemingway's personal fishing boat, the Pilar.
