Sanctum was inspired by true event and was filmed on location in Queensland, Australia. This 3D thriller was produce by James Cameron and written by Andrew Wight. Frank McGuire is a master diver and he is world renowned as one of the greatest cave explorers. His latest feat is successfully exploring the famous South Pacific Esa-ala Caves. This cave system is the largest in the world, the least accessible and no one has ever explored the farthest depths of this subterranean oasis. Frank has already set up a substation in one of the lower quadrants of this system and to support his work he heads group expeditions. Carl Hurley is an executive that wants to impress his girlfriend Victoria, so he books an expedition. Carl is actually a friend of Frank’s 17 year old son Josh, who decides to join them on the dive even though the relationship with his father is strained. The other divers on this expedition are Judes, Luko, J.D. and Liz. When of the crew has an unforeseeable accident and drowns, they are forced to bring the body back up to the entrance. As the near the surface, they find that opening has collapsed in and impossible to clear. While they were diving a tropical storm has turned into a cyclone and caused flash flooding. They are now forced farther into the cavern in a desperate measure to find an alternative way out. Now this exciting and mind-blowing adventure has turned into the most dangerous and life-threatening expedition they have ever been on. Diving into unchartered territories, they are forced to battle raging water, confined spaces and treacherous terrain to find an escape route that might not even exist. As tempers flare and supplies become scarce, this underwater labyrinth threatens to be the last dive for all of them.
