EXistenZ is a science fiction film starring Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jude Law. The film takes place in the future where videogame technology has become so advanced that people are able to experience virtual reality by putting themselves into the game. However, there are people that believe this technology is too much and they are trying to rebel against the videogame companies, who are everywhere. Allegra is one of the top videogame designers in the world and the rebels have her in eyesight. One night, she is shot and injured. She also discovers that someone has damaged her videogame pod that allows her to play the game. Allegra is concerned and wants to check out her game. She finds Pikul, another game player, and asks him to hook his pod up to hers so she can investigate. All this time, she is pursued by Gas, who is trying to kill her. Pikul and Allegra soon run into problems as they are having trouble telling the difference between the real world and the fake. They realize that all the game pods are compromised and they must destroy them in order to protect the people inside. They sneak into Allegra’s old factory at night and begin to sabotage the pods. They are caught by a resistance fighter who aims his gun at Allegra. Then one of Allegra’s friends from another company saves her. He tells her that he copied her game into his game pod, that way he would always know where she was. Pikul then pulls his gun on them and he confesses to Allegra that he is one of the rebels. Allegra is not surprised. The two of them are then asked by another man if they are in the game or in reality. Neither knows what to answer.
