Shorgul is a political drama film released in 2016, directed by Jitendra Tiwari and Prashant V. Singh. The movie features Jimmy Shergill, Ashutosh Rana, and Rahul Chahan in lead roles. The story of the film revolves around the political turmoil in the city of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, India. The movie begins with a love story between Zainab (Suha Gezen), a Muslim girl, and Saleem (Hiten Tejwani), a Hindu boy. However, their love story takes a tragic turn when their families oppose their relationship due to religious differences. The situation becomes even more volatile when the local politician Vidhayak Pandey (Ashutosh Rana) instigates the people of Muzaffarnagar in the name of religion and creates a communal tension.

On the other hand, a young journalist Raghav (Anirudh Dave) gets into the middle of the matter and tries to find the truth behind the communal clash. While investigating the case, Raghav finds out that Vidhayak Pandey and his son Shahnawaz (Kannan Arunachalam) are the ones behind the communal violence that has been spreading like wildfire in the city.

Amidst all of this, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Siddharth (Jimmy Shergill) steps in to control the situation and bring peace to the city. Siddharth, who is known for his no-nonsense attitude, tries to stop the communal violence and bring the culprits to justice.

However, the situation gets out of control, and the communal violence takes a deadly turn when a young boy is killed in the clash. The tension between the two communities becomes so volatile that it threatens to destroy everything, including the lives of innocent people.

The movie showcases the ruthless political game, where politicians use religion to gain power and control. It also highlights how media plays a crucial role in spreading or controlling violence and how the people of the affected community suffer due to the manipulations of politicians.

The performances of the actors are commendable, especially Ashutosh Rana, who portrays the character of Vidhayak Pandey with such conviction that it sends shivers down the spine. Jimmy Shergill, who plays the role of DSP Siddharth, has done an excellent job of portraying the character's complexities and struggles.

The film successfully highlights how religion is still being used as a tool to divide people and gain votes. It also throws light on the issue of honour killing that is still prevalent in some parts of the country. The film is a powerful reminder of how the divide between the two communities is not natural but created by the people with vested interests.

Overall, Shorgul is a movie that packs a punch and successfully portrays the harsh reality of the politics of religion in the country. The director duo of Jitendra Tiwari and Prashant V. Singh has done an excellent job of bringing the story to life, and the movie is a must-watch for anyone who wants to understand the delicate and complex nature of communal harmony in the country.
