Skyquake is a 2015 film that tells the story of a family's attempt to survive during a sudden earthquake in Seattle. The movie stars Bronwen Smith, Sandy Robson, and Aidan Kokotilo-Moen. The movie opens with a family enjoying a typical day in Seattle. David (played by Sandy Robson) is a stay-at-home dad taking care of his two children while his wife Susan (played by Bronwen Smith) is at work. Their eldest son Jake (played by Aidan Kokotilo-Moen) is at school. Suddenly, the sky turns red and a massive earthquake hits the city. The family is separated as buildings collapse, roads crumble, and chaos reigns.

David sets out to find his family, navigating through the destruction of the city. He eventually finds Susan and Jake, but their journey doesn't end there. They encounter numerous obstacles and dangers throughout their quest to safety.

One of the biggest obstacles they come across is the collapse of a bridge that separates them from safety. They have no choice but to try to cross the unstable wreckage of the bridge with the hope of reaching safety on the other side. The scene is both intense and nerve-wracking, as they make their way across the treacherous terrain with no guarantees that they will make it.

Throughout the movie, we see the characters respond to the disaster in different ways. David, the father, is calm and resourceful, constantly trying to find a way to keep his family safe. Susan, the mom, is fraught with anxiety and worry, constantly fearing for the safety of her children. Jake, their son, is initially scared but eventually learns to adapt and become braver as the situation escalates.

As they make their way through the city, the family encounters several other characters, some helpful and some not. They meet a couple who has also survived the initial earthquake but soon realize that the wife is struggling with a severe injury. They also encounter a man who has lost everything he owns and is desperate to keep it together.

The movie builds tension expertly as the constant threat of aftershocks and the looming possibility of the 'big one' keeps the audience on edge throughout. Along with the physical dangers of the disaster, the emotional toll on the family is palpable. Their struggles to find safety and reunite with one another give a humanizing touch to this disaster tale.

One thing that is notable about Skyquake is the expert use of practical effects. The movie uses a variety of different practical effects, including explosions, crumbling buildings, and fires. The use of practical effects gives the movie a more realistic feel that is missing from so many contemporary disaster movies that rely more heavily on computer-generated imagery.

Overall, Skyquake is an intense and entertaining disaster film that is sure to appeal to fans of the genre. It does an excellent job of exploring the human side of a disaster, showing how real families might react in a crisis, and the lengths they would go to keep each other safe. With solid performances from the cast and excellent use of practical effects, Skyquake is a movie that is well worth watching.
