Sleeping Dogs is a 2013 British independent thriller directed by Richard Blake and starring Jon Campling, Rachel Hayes and James Humpherys. The movie follows an ex-con named Lawrence (Jon Campling) who just got out of prison and is trying to start a new life, but soon finds himself dragged back into his old criminal ways. The movie starts off with Lawrence being released from prison after serving a five-year sentence for robbery. He is met outside the prison gates by his former girlfriend Maria (Rachel Hayes), who is now living with their young son. Lawrence is keen to turn his back on his criminal past and start anew, but his past quickly catches up with him when he runs into his old partner in crime, Tony (James Humpherys).

Tony is keen to pull off a big heist and is convinced that Lawrence is the man for the job. Despite Lawrence's initial reluctance, Tony's persistence eventually wears him down and they both set out to rob a casino. As they begin to plan the heist, it becomes clear that there is much more at stake than just the money.

The movie is a tense and gritty crime thriller that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. The relationships between the characters are complex and layered, particularly that between Lawrence and Maria. The chemistry between the two actors is palpable, and their scenes together are some of the movies most emotionally raw.

The cinematography is also worth noting, with the movie being shot on location in London. The gritty city streets serve as the perfect backdrop to the movie's tense and claustrophobic atmosphere, and the movie's final act is particularly effective in this regard.

The movie is not without its flaws, however. The pacing is occasionally slow, and there are some moments when the movie veers dangerously close to cliché. However, these flaws are largely overcome by the strength of the movie's lead performances, particularly that of Jon Campling.

Overall, Sleeping Dogs is a tense and gripping crime thriller that will appeal to fans of the genre. Its complex characters and emotionally charged relationships make it stand out from other movies in the same vein, and it is definitely worth watching for anyone who enjoys a good heist movie.

Sleeping Dogs is a 2013 drama with a runtime of 1 hour and 28 minutes. It has received mostly positive reviews from critics and viewers, who have given it an IMDb score of 7.6.
