Katie is a high school girl that wants more out of life. Katie decides to go to the extreme and sign-up for a trip to China; she is excited to see a new and distant land. Katie has an encounter she did not expect and an encounter she will never forget all the days of her life. Katie meets Lin, who has a major problem. Lin's face is hideous; it is so hideous that she refuses to show her face to anyone.

Katie gives Lin good counsel, and she explains to Lin that life is more about having a pretty face. Lin is also surprised that Katie would even want to be her friend. Katie helps Lin gain the courage to stand up for herself and face the world, even with her hideous face. Katie realizes this trip to China was not for nothing, but it was for a purpose beyond her wildest dreams.
