Smosh: The Movie
- 1 hr 26 min
Smosh: the Movie is an independent 2015 action-comedy. It is based on the web-video series of the same title, which stars college-age performers Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox. The Smosh Internet entertainment franchise is one of the most-subscribed channels on YouTube.com. Anthony and Hecox perform under their own names, in various comedy sketches which parody aspects of modern culture, including the Internet, video games, TV series, comic books, and other popular culture subjects. Their brand of comedy resembles a kind of sketch/improv performance for the modern day Internet audience. In this story, Anthony is distressed to find an embarrassing video of himself on the Internet, which prevents him from consummating with his crush Anna. Anthony and Ian take a portal into the Internet to try to erase the video and change Internet history to erase the incident as well. They also travel to YouTube headquarters to enlist the aid of the company president, and an artificial intelligence bot named Diri, a parody of Apple's Siri technology. An antagonist, named Steve YouTube, appears to thwart their quest to get rid of the embarrassing video of Anthony. Along the way, they revisit some of their classic short subject video bits, including a Pokemon song and routines such as Teleporting Fat Guy and Boxman. Various cameos from minor celebrities from TV and the Internet round out the cast. The movie follows much the same style and format as their YouTube video channel productions, with action sequences and many pop culture references and self-deprecatory humor.
