A young couple from Indiana, Jesse and Jenica, embarks on a journey to Los Angeles so that Jesse can pursue his dream of becoming an actor. Despite facing several obstacles at the beginning of their journey, the two manage to overcome them and reach their destination. However, things take a turn when during an argument, they accidentally hit a pedestrian with their car. Scared and unsure of what to do, they decide to leave the scene and continue on their trip.
As they make their way through Los Angeles, they begin to experience the harsh realities of the city. They struggle to find work or even a stable place to stay. Jesse's acting career quickly hits a dead-end, causing friction in their relationship. Jenica feels trapped and alone as she tries to help support them in any way she can. She tries to make friends, but she is often met with disappointment and rejection.
One day, while Jenica is out looking for a job, she meets a kind-hearted man named Oscar who offers her a job as a maid in his hotel. Things finally start looking up for them as they are able to rent an apartment and begin to settle into their new lives. Jesse even manages to land a small role in a TV show, but it quickly becomes clear that his career is not going to take off as he had hoped.
As their relationship continues to deteriorate, they both start questioning whether they should have come to the city in the first place. Jenica begins to see a therapist and seeks comfort in her new friendships. Yet, these relationships come with their own challenges and baggage, leading to a few shocking revelations.
So Close So Far takes the viewer through the emotional struggles of two young adults trying to make a life for themselves in a city that can be brutal and unforgiving.
