Directed by Herschell Gordon Lewis, and starring the likes of Tony McCabe, Elizabeth Lee, and William Brooker, Something Weird is a sci-fi/paranormal drama about a man (McCabe) whose face becomes disfigured after an electrical accident. As a result of the accident, the man gains psychic abilities and begins work as a fortune teller. While working, the fortune teller is visited by a hideous woman who claims she can restore the man's face to it's pre-injury status if he in return would be willing to take her as his lover. He reluctantly accepts the woman's overtures and his face is indeed returned to it's natural state. Unknown to the man however, is that this ugly woman appears beautiful and exotic to everyone else who sees her. Shortly after becoming lovers, the fortune teller and the strange woman begin traveling the country, solving crimes until they end up on the trail of a serial killer in Wisconsin. The federal government wants to prove the powers of the couple as a fraud, and assign an agent to tail their every move. The government agent begins to fall for the "beautiful" woman who accompanies the fortune teller. During the government's pursuit of the fortune teller, a government doctor suggests that to further enhance his psychic powers, he should try a new drug referred to as LSD. The twist is that the fortune teller is the one who is committing these brutal crimes throughout the country, and has no idea that he is doing so. The woman who changed his face back to it's original state, is actually a witch who has placed the fortune teller under her spell. This is one of the first films to ever delve into the "split-personality/unconscious psychosis" theme as a backdrop for the action within the movie.
