The Breaks is a dramedy movie from 1999 that is set in New York City. The movie follows the lives of three young black friends, Andre (played by Isaiah Barnes), David (played by Max Becker), and A-Wax (played by Anthony Anderson) as they navigate their way through adulthood while still trying to follow their dreams of becoming successful in the music industry.

At the beginning of the movie, Andre, David, and A-Wax are just three young men trying to make ends meet. They work low-paying jobs and spend their free time hustling for music gigs. However, when Andre is given the opportunity to record with a major label, their fortunes take a turn for the better.

As Andre's star rises, David and A-Wax decide to capitalize on their own music dreams. They form a group called Dub Master Beam and start promoting their music around town. Unfortunately, their efforts are met with mixed results. While some people are impressed with their music, others write them off as amateurs.

As the group struggles to make it into the mainstream, they soon discover that the music industry is filled with people who are more interested in making a quick buck than in supporting new talent. To make matters worse, Andre finds himself questioning his own allegiance to the industry. He must decide how far he is willing to go in order to achieve success.

Throughout the movie, the characters are forced to confront their own insecurities and face the harsh realities of the music industry. They deal with rejection, exploitation, and heartbreak. However, they also share moments of joy and friendship.

The Breaks is a poignant and humorous look at the ups and downs of the music industry. It shines a light on the struggles faced by many aspiring artists of color who must navigate a complex and often unforgiving system in order to succeed. The movie features a talented cast, including the young Anthony Anderson, who delivers a standout performance as A-Wax.

Overall, The Breaks is an engaging and thought-provoking movie that is well worth watching. It captures the spirit of the late 90s hip-hop scene in New York City and explores the themes of friendship, ambition, and perseverance.
