In the action thriller Blitz, a police officer with a bad temper fights to take down the bad guys. His style usually clashes with the rules, but that's how he gets the job done. This time around, he's trying to catch a cop killer with the help of his partner. The twist in this case is that the detective protagonist, Tom Brant, is teamed up with a new partner, Porter Nash. Nash is openly gay, and he is a target of homophobic ridicule from his colleagues. The grumpy, violent Brant would seem to be a problem for Nash, but Brant ends up being an ally. The film is based on a novel by Irish author Elliott Lester. The screenplay was written by Nathan Parker. The novel is one installment in a book franchise featuring the central characters of Detective Sergeant Tom Brant and Chief Inspector James Roberts. Other novels in the series include A White Arrest, Taming the Alien, The McDead, Vixen, Calibre, and Ammunition. In addition to his success in Blitz, Jason Statham, who portrays Brant, went on to even bigger stardom in movies such as The Mechanic (2011), Spy (2015), Mechanic: Resurrection (2016), and the The Expendables (2010–14) and Fast & Furious franchises. The film was released in 2011 in theaters. It had only modest commercial success, bringing in about $15 million in worldwide ticket sales. It found further success once it was released to DVD and on-demand video. It also met with primarily negative reviews from critics.
