The Castle of Cagliostro

The Castle of Cagliostro is an anime film from 1979 that was directed by Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli fame. The movie is the second to feature the character of master thief Arsène Lupin III. The character also featured in both manga and anime series. This movie is in the action comedy genre. The Castle of Cagliostro starts with the hero, Lupin, discovering that his recent casino heist has left him with nothing but counterfeit money. He is determined to follow it to its source, which is apparently the small country of Caglisotro. The master thief ends up embroiled in political intrigue as he attempts to avoid capture by an ever-vigilant Interpol agent.

This is a movie designed to provide light entertainment. It has a lot of action, humor, and slapstick comedy. It was the directorial debut of Hayao Miyazaki, the man who later created Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. It is considered by many to be a classic example of early anime.
