The Black Cauldron is a 1985 Walt Disney Animated. Based on the first two books of The Chronicles of Prydain, the film centers around Welsh mythology. It is different from typical Disney animated films as it's darker in nature and a bit graphic in parts. In order to match the dark mood of the film's storyline, producers depended on musical undertones rather than characters belting out typical Disney songs.

The film follows a young pig-farmer's assistant named Taran, his pig Hen Wen, and their companions as they strive to thwart the evil plans of the Horned King. Hen Wen is no ordinary pig. She is an oracle whom the Horned King plans to use to find the Black Cauldron. The Horned King plots to use the cauldron's power to build an army of undead slaves.

Taran dreams of becoming a mighty warrior so he is not serious about getting Hen Wen to safety. Because of this, Hen Wen is captured by the Horned King's henchmen. Taran then rushes to the Horned King's castle to rescue the pig. Along the way he meets a strange wild creature named Gurgi.

At the castle, Taran releases Hen Wen from the dungeon but is captured himself. He meets fellow prisoners Princess Eilonwy and Fflewddur Fflam, and together they escape. As they rush through the catacombs of the castle, the trio discovers an ancient magical sword. Taran takes the sword with hopes of defeating the Horned King and attaining his heroic dreams.

Once they leave the castle, they are reunited with Gurgi. The group scrambles to track down Hen Wen before the Horned King once again finds her. Along the way they meet Fair Folk and witches, and encounter all kinds of magic. When they finally match wits with the Horned King himself by movie's end, the group discovers what they have inside of them to destroy the Horned King and the cauldron.
