- 1 hr 23 min
Big Mama is an old wise Owl who seems to see everything. One morning she spots a mother fox out of breath and leaving her young kit by a fence post. Curious she continues to watch to see what reason the mother would have to abandon her baby, and then she hears the gunshot. Big Mama flies down to check on the poor little baby fox. She assures him that everything is okay and that she well take care of everything. She calls for Binky and Boomer to help her by taking Widow Tweed's underwear and dropping them on the kit after Boomer pretends to be someone at the door. Widow Tweed finds the baby fox and names him Todd. She decides to adopt the fox and take care of him. Soon Widow Tweeds neighbor Slade buys a new hound puppy named Copper whom Todd befriends. After playing together multiple times Slade is furious that he leaves the yard and ties him up next to Chief, his hunting dog. When fall hits Slade takes Chief and Copper out for a vacation where he will teach Copper how to be a hunting Dog. Binky and Boomer try to tell Todd that he and Copper will be enemies when he returns home but Todd refuses to believe his best friend will ever change. When spring returns Todd tries to visit Copper. Slade believes Todd is trying to get his chickens and complains to Widow Tweed that if he goes on his property again he'll shoot him. Worried for Todd's safety Widow Tweed sadly returns Todd to the forest and tells him he has to live there now. At first Todd finds it hard to adapt to his new home. Big Mama pays him a visit to see how he is holding up and he complains about everything. Big Mama then introduces him to Vixey another fox whom he falls in love with. Copper and Slade begin to hunt Todd after an altercation that left Chief with a broken leg. Among the hunt they encounter a bear in whom almost attacks Slade but both Todd and Copper fight off the bear saving each other and Slade. When Slade recovers he aims his gun at Todd. Copper whimpers and puts himself in front of Todd to save his childhood friend. Slade sighs and calls Copper and they return home to rest and heal their wounds from the bear attack.
