The Fox and the Hound 2 begins with Tod, who is a fox cub, and Copper, who is a hound pup, walking to a county fair, where they meet up with some stray dogs who have formed a band. The stray dogs are set to perform, but the leader of the dogs, Cash, gets into an argument with Daisy. She leaves, forcing the dogs to go onto the stage without her. However, Cash finds that Copper has quite the talent and invites him to sing with them. After the concert, Cash spends some quality time with Copper, telling him about all of the good things that will happen when he is with the band. However, in the process Copper forgets Tod, who is upset that Copper won't be watching fireworks with him. Tod, with the help of Dixie who takes pity on him, decides to get Copper back so the pair can watch fireworks. He does so by getting Copper's owner to come chase after him and leads him straight to the fair. This predictably leads to disaster and leaves many people and dogs furious. The band, who was unable to perform, leaves and Copper is fired. Copper and Tod then reconcile and make a plan to unite the band to get them back together. Copper goes to Cash and tells him that Dixie is in trouble, while Tod goes to Dixie and tells her that Cash in trouble. The two dogs race to each other's rescue, and then the band reunites, where they sing for the talent agent. He is so impressed that he invites the dogs to go sing at the Grand Ole' Opry. Copper, too, is invited, but he chooses to give up the riches and showbiz lifestyle in order to stay with his friend Tod. The two then go off back to the woods to play.
