As a sequel to Disney's 1989 classic, "The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea" tells the story of Ariel and Eric's daughter, Princess Melody. The movie picks up 12 years after the events of the original film and Melody is a curious and adventurous young girl who longs to explore beyond the confines of her kingdom's walls. Melody has grown up hearing stories about her mother's life under the sea and her own mermaid heritage, but has been forbidden from going near the water because of the dangers that lurk beneath. Despite this, Melody is drawn to the sea and secretly practices swimming and surfing with the help of her friend Tip, a penguin who dreams of flying. As Melody approaches her 12th birthday, the sea-witch Ursula's sister, Morgana, discovers Melody's existence and seeks to use the girl to obtain the Trident, which would give her ultimate power. Morgana, with the help of her lackey, a small and talkative crab named Undertow, tricks Melody into trading her voice for a pair of legs, just like her mother did many years ago. Melody soon realizes her mistake and must go on a journey to retrieve her voice and save her family and the ocean from Morgana's evil intentions. Along the way, she meets new friends, including Scuttle's granddaughter, the adventurous seagull named Scamp, and must also face her own fears and doubts. The original cast returns for the sequel with Jodi Benson reprising her role as Ariel and Samuel E. Wright returning as Sebastian, the friendly crab who helps Melody on her journey. Tara Strong voices Melody, while Pat Carroll returns as the villainous sea-witch, Ursula. "The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea" features several memorable musical numbers, including "Tip and Dash," a comedic duet between Melody's penguin friend and a clumsy walrus, and "Here on the Land and Sea," a heartfelt song about the bond between Melody and her family. Overall, "The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea" is a charming and touching sequel that explores the themes of family, courage, and friendship with the same magic and heart as its predecessor. The film is sure to delight fans of the original and captivate a new generation of young viewers.
