Watch The Princess and the Frog
In The Princess and the Frog, Disney creates an age-old fairy tale with a new spin. Tiana grows up in the heart of poverty-stricken New Orleans. Her parents teach her about hard work, family and tradition. Her father teaches her everything about New Orleans cuisine. She grows up believing a little bit of magic and a lot of hard work would help her reach her dreams. As a young woman, she always remembers her late father and his wish to open a restaurant. Tiana's only goal in life now is to create her father's dream. Working two jobs and saving every penny, Tiana finally has enough money to buy the old sugar mill to begin her restaurant. In the meantime, a very handsome and secretly penniless Prince Naveen enters New Orleans. Selfish, wayward and fun-loving, Naveen has been cut off from his inheritance and seeks a wealthy sugar baron's daughter to marry. Trouble brews when a voodoo man sets his eyes on a plot to take over the city, and this royal engagement is too perfect for his plan. Just when Tiana attempts a down payment on her dreams, the sugar mill is held by another bidder and she is helpless and lost. Dressed in a borrowed tiara and princess gown, Tiana wishes upon a star with no other hope in the world. Her answer comes in the form of a bonafide frog Prince. He convinces her that they both need a kiss. Instead of transforming the Prince into a human, she is turned into a frog as well. Now in a similar situation, Tiana and Prince Naveen search for someone who can help them. Their journey takes them deep in the bayou where they meet trumpet-playing crocodiles, Cajun fireflies and trap-hunters. Slowly, the two frogs find that they have more in common than they thought. Before midnight strikes, Tiana and Prince Naveen must find a princess (or a witch)to break the spell, but they may find true love instead. With clarity of illustration and scenic beauty, The Princess and the Frog is decidedly Disney. Steeped in Louisiana traditions, it conveys the smells, tastes and visions that have the spice of New Orleans. Although an age-old tale, it is proven that a unique twist can enliven the plot and gain timeless quality.
