Chris, otherwise known as Hans Christian Anderson, is thirteen and has the reputation of being a daydreamer. Papa Anderson, Chris's dad, is a kind shoemaker. Chris and his dad struggle to make ends meet. Papa Anderson has told Chris stories about the Garden of Paradise. Chris leaves a note and sets out to find it. Papa finds the note and goes after Chris. The film takes off in adventure after adventure when Chris meets characters such as the Sandman, the Little Mermaid, a baby duckling, and the Emperor. In the end, Chris learns his Garden of Paradise is in his stories, which last forever.
