"The Glass Menagerie" (1987) is the fourth film adaptation of the play by Tennessee Williams. It is told from the point of view of Tom Wingfield as he remembers the circumstances under which he left his family, which consisted of his shy and crippled sister and their delusional mother who is obsessed with finding a "gentleman caller" for the sister. Tom tries to help out by bringing home a friend, but it ends in disaster. The title refers to the sister's collection of glass animals.
