Deep in the south western corner of the Arabian Peninsular, far across the desert sands of Saudi Arabia, lies the ancient and once fertile kingdom of Yemen, the home we are led to believe of the ancient and beautiful Queen of Sheba. One of the most distinctive features of the Yemeni landscape and the secret of its agricultural wealth were the layers of terraces that lay along its steep-sided valleys. Over the centuries these terraces have crumbled and broken away as the skills that led to their maintenance over many hundreds of years have been lost, and with the loss of the terraces has gone the source of much of Yemen's wealth. This programme tells the extraordinary story of how a western trained engineer is applying his modern knowledge to rebuild and bring back into use these ancient structures.
