The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter is a film based on a novel by Carson McCullers. It is directed by Robert Ellis Miller. The main stars are Alan Arkin, Sondra Locke and Laurinda Barret. The film brings the novel's small town setting from the Great Depression to the 60s. The plot of the movie is about a deaf mute whose small world brings him in touch with a girl who dreams of being a concert pianist. The guy who is deaf mute name is John Singer and the girl he meets is named Mick. When John first meets Mick, she is very hostile towards him. However, she soon becomes friends with John, she hope she can enlarge his small world and get him to see more. Some other characters come to Mick telling her they see a more powerful source in Singer. However, some are so obsessed with their own problems that they fail to see that John has some very serious problems of his own to deal with.
