The Landlady is a made-for-TV mystery movie from 1998. Directed by Rob Malenfant and starring Talia Shire, Jack Coleman, and Bruce Weitz, it follows the story of Carol (Shire), a single mother who moves into a new apartment building with her teenage son. However, as soon as they move in, strange things start happening that suggest their landlady (played by Weitz) is not as friendly as she seems.

The movie opens with Carol and her son moving into their new apartment, excited to start their fresh new life. The building is run by a friendly and charming landlady named Lilith (Weitz), who shows them around the apartment and assures them that they will love living there. However, as they start to settle in, Carol starts to notice some odd things happening. For example, Lilith enters their apartment without knocking, rearranges their furniture, and even goes through their personal belongings. When Carol confronts her about it, Lilith is defensive and insists that she was just checking for leaks.

As the movie progresses, Carol becomes more and more convinced that something is not right with Lilith. She starts to uncover evidence that Lilith has a dark past involving mysterious deaths in her previous buildings. She also starts to suspect that Lilith is involved in a string of recent murders happening in their neighborhood. However, when she tries to confront the police and her neighbors about her suspicions, she is met with skepticism and disbelief.

The tension continues to rise as Carol's son becomes a target of Lilith's sinister intentions. He begins receiving strange phone calls from Lilith, who tells him that she knows his deepest secrets and urges him to keep them from his mother. Meanwhile, Carol's investigation leads her down a dangerous path, as she starts to fear for her own safety.

Overall, The Landlady is a tense and suspenseful mystery movie that keeps viewers on edge from start to finish. The standout performance from Talia Shire as a determined and resourceful mother adds depth to the story, while Jack Coleman's portrayal of a concerned and protective son is also noteworthy. Bruce Weitz's performance as the creepy and suspicious landlady is equally compelling, and he manages to create a sense of unease throughout the entire film.

The movie is well-paced, with plenty of twists and turns to keep audiences guessing until the very end. Additionally, the film's gritty and atmospheric setting adds to the overall sense of dread and tension. While it may not be the most complex or groundbreaking mystery film, The Landlady is an effective and thrilling thriller that is sure to entertain fans of the genre.
