The Last Starfighter is a 1984 family rated science fiction adventure film directed by Nick Castle, written by Jonathan Betuel and distributed by Universal Pictures. The film is about a an average teenage boy named Alex Rogan (played by Lance Guest) who lives in a trailer park with his mother who is played by(Barbra Blossom) and his younger brother Louis played by (Chris Herbert). When he isn't fixing things for the other residents, he is playing a video game caller The Last Star Fighter. When he beats the games highest level, the game becomes all too real as he is recruited by an alien named Centauri played by (Robert Preston) and forced to fight in an interstellar war. Lance Guest is joined by an alien named Grig play by (Dan O'Herliy). (Chatherin Mary Stewart) played Eric's girlfriend who lived with her granny played by (Meg Wylie). Norman Snow and Kay E. Kuter also performed in the movie. This movie when filmed used an estimated budget of 15,000,000 dollars. The movie aired on July 1, 1984 and ran for approximately one hour and forty one minutes. At the time of its release it acquired a strong following of critics and ordinary movie goer, alike. This film uses some of the first computer-generated imagery to depict star ships and their environments. Making for some of the most amazing battles scenes of its time. The battle in the asteroid field has a realistic look that was accomplished by using computer imagery. The aliens were from several different planets so they were in costumes and make up to play their characters. Grig, Eric's teacher, wore a reptilian like costume. The movie is on DVD, where it can rented, or it can be bought in stores and online.
