The movie The Sandman from 1991 is a horror film directed by Jörg Buttgereit. It tells the story of a serial killer named Klaus (played by Tomas Kretschmann) who is obsessed with death and capturing the last moments of his victims on film. Klaus uses a special chemical concoction to put his victims to sleep and then films them as they die. He calls himself "The Sandman" because he believes he is causing his victims to dream their final dreams.
The movie begins with Klaus filming one of his murder victims, a young woman named Maria. He is interrupted by a group of teenagers who are out looking for a place to party. Klaus escapes before they can catch him, but one of the teenagers, a young girl named Lisa, is haunted by what she saw and becomes obsessed with finding the Sandman.
Lisa's search leads her to a local photographer named Vollmer (played by Ralf Röder), who has a collection of photographs of dead bodies that Klaus had sold to him. Vollmer tells Lisa that Klaus is insane and that she should stay away from him. But Lisa refuses to listen and continues to pursue Klaus.
As the movie progresses, Klaus becomes more and more obsessed with Lisa, eventually kidnapping her and taking her back to his hideout. There, he reveals his plans to make her his next victim and film her dying moments. But Lisa manages to turn the tables on Klaus, using his own chemical concoction against him and putting him to sleep. She then sets fire to his hideout, seemingly killing him.
But as the movie comes to a close, it becomes clear that Klaus is not dead after all. Lisa is haunted by visions of him, and there are hints that he may still be out there, waiting to continue his killing spree.
Overall, The Sandman is a disturbing and unsettling movie that explores the twisted mind of a serial killer. It is not for the faint of heart, with graphic scenes of violence and gore. But for horror fans who are looking for something truly disturbing, The Sandman is definitely worth a watch.
