The movie was directed by Gabor Csupo and features Dakota Blue Richards, Tim Curry, Ioan Gruffudd, Natascha McElhone and Augustus Prew. The story begins as Maria Merryweather's father dies, and all he has left to leave his daughter is a book titled The Ancient Chronicles of Moonacre Valley. The book features a beautiful Moon Princess who is blessed with magical pearls. As time progresses, Maria begins to experience many fantasy-like events. Clothing and food appear effortlessly in her home. The piano begins to play itself at will. Though she has no kitchen, food is always on the table. Stars fall each night, and a picture suddenly appears outside of her room. However, her uncle, who has taken her book away, also removes the picture each day. When Maria's uncle takes her horse riding, she spies a rabbit. She follows it through the woods, despite being told never to do this for the danger. While in the woods, Maria is pursued by bandits. The group of bandits is led by Robin, who is revealed as the son of Coeur De Noir, the leader of the De Noirs family. When her uncle goes to find Maria, they are both captured by thugs. She recognizes them as the same thugs who once attacked another family. They are saved by Wrolf, her uncle's dog, but he is later killed. After they escape, Maria inquires of her uncle about all of the strange events. He tells her to stop asking about it but is very disturbed. Maria finds the old book and is inspired to offer the moon an offering, which is accepted. Wrolf comes back to life. When one of the family of thugs tries to murder Maria, she is saved.
