In The Severed Arm, a group of six friends goes on a wilderness excursion, but not everything goes according to plan. The group gets lost and runs out of supplies, leading them to turn on each other as they become desperate for survival. After a particularly heinous act, one of the friends has his arm severed by another member of the group.

Years later, the man who lost his arm, Travers, receives a strange package in the mail: his severed limb. The package is followed by a letter demanding $1 million in ransom for each friend who participated in cutting off his arm. Travers, now a successful writer, contacts his old friends and convinces them to go along with his plan to meet the ransom demands by digging up a cache of hidden diamonds.

However, as the group embarks on this mission, they soon realize that someone is following them, determined to stop them from delivering the ransom money. Soon, the friends start getting picked off one by one, and they must band together once again to uncover the identity of their mysterious assailant.

The Severed Arm is a gritty and suspenseful thriller that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats. The film's unrelenting tension is expertly crafted with skillful direction, smartly paced editing, and a score that heightens the sense of danger and terror. The performances from the lead actors, including Deborah Walley as Travers' girlfriend and David G. Cannon as the group's leader, are all excellent and contribute to the sense of unease and apprehension that permeates the film.

While The Severed Arm may feel like a typical exploitation film from the era, it sets itself apart from others with its thoughtful exploration of the consequences of extreme circumstances. The scenes of horror and violence are spaced out effectively throughout the movie, ensuring that the audience remains engaged and curious about the identity of the antagonist.

The Severed Arm is not for the faint of heart, as it features graphic violence and psychological horror that can be quite unnerving. However, for those who can stomach it, the payoff is well worth the journey. The film's twists and turns ensure that there is never a dull moment, and the final scene is as satisfying as any horror fan could ask for.

In the end, The Severed Arm is a cult classic for a reason. Its combination of suspenseful storytelling, tight pacing, and memorable characters make it a stand-out in the horror/thriller genre. Fans of exploitation-style movies will find a lot to love here, as will anyone looking for a thrilling, pulse-pounding ride that will have them hooked from beginning to end.
