The Tenants (2009) depicts the lives of a Brazilian working class family and their struggle to survive. Surrounded by increasing violence when thugs rent a home next door to the family, Valter, the head of the family, does his best to keep them safe. As hopelessness smolders in the impoverished area, we get a glimpse of what it’s like to live on the edge of destitution and direct threats while still having hope for the future.
