The Young Messiah tells the story of Jesus at the age of 7 during his family’s journey from Egypt to return to their home in Nazareth and eventually to Jerusalem. He then discovers His true identity as the Son of God and His divine destiny to be the Savior of His people. The story is told from His childhood perspective. He does things much like a regular child, like play games and listen to stories from his mother and father. However, after performing miracles, He also discovers He is a healer and can do things other children cannot.

The trek across the dessert is perilous and the family is pursued by Severus, a Roman centurion dispatched by the murderous King Herod. Along the way, Jesus develops a deeper understanding of the world around Him and the family gradually comes to terms with the truth and purpose of His life.
